High-level debates about governance do matter, especially when so much power will be vested in the hands of local bodies.
It's easy to become absorbed in the daily difficulties of organisational change, but a few key pointers can help reduce stress both for managers and administrative staff.

- Try and ensure that you're still marketable in your chosen career. Plan for the worst and assume you may have to change jobs. Update your CV to reflect your current responsibilities, renew professional contacts and ensure you take on as much training as you can.
- Use your professional associations, trade union and industry-specific publications to stay in touch with the world outside your immediate workplace. Sometimes an alternative perspective can help.
